lyrics

Opportunities arise differently
For different people!
It’s a vain mistake to think that
They are are all truly equal!

We are not equal.
We are not equal.
We are not free no,
We’re not fucking free, no!

We are not equal.
We are not equal.
We are not free no,
We’re not fucking free, no!

It’s not just a question of
Time, effort, and will!
For the circumstances of our birth
Are more material!
We imagine fortune as the fruit borne of liberty
But fortune comes from Fortune as manifest in property!

God does not endow you,
No, God does not endow you
The freedoms you are promised—
With the chances you are promised
No, you are a slave to—
I say you’re a slave to—
The laws, blood, and gold that
Fortune bade that you have!

This is a mistaken, idealistic
Kantian notion!
But it’s outdated nonsense, based
On a flawed understanding.
We can no more seek our fortunes
Than we can grow wings to fly,
If the system in which we’re placed
breeds us all just to die!

We are nothing more than cogs
Cogs In a vast machine;
We’re driven by its motions
And where our gears are placed therein!
The fault lies with Fortune
And she that built this clockwork cage!
Don’t blame it on lazy gears—
It’s the fabricator that deserves our rage

We might think that this is cause for us
To wallow in despair
But take this truth as a reason
To give up on all repair!
Defy the whims of Fortuna—
Smash the gears with a wrench!
Fuck this broken clockwork cage:
Don’t try to fix just aim to rend!
